A young girl commits suicide, and an Inspector calls upon a prosperous industralist's household investigating her death. He interrupts a happy family party celebrating the engagement of the daughter of the house, but relationships quickly become strained as it is revealed that each of the family members played a part in driving the girl to kill herself. Priestley's powerful drama, performed once previously by the Players, is a cutting commentary on the boundaries of social status and collective responsibility.
